What are Common Bond Amounts in Florida?
There are suggested sentencing ranges if you are charged and convicted of a crime. But what you may not know is that there are also suggested amounts for the bail you are required to pay if you are charged with certain crimes. Of course, judges and magistrates always have the discretion to set whatever bail they think is appropriate, depending on the circumstances of the case and on what kind of risk they think you pose. However, there are some common bail amounts that they use as guidelines, and that it is helpful for you to know about if you are arrested.
In Florida, common bail amounts vary by county. For example, in Pinellas County, $500 bail is common for a first-time DUI charge that does not involve any property damage. In Flagler and Volusia counties, $1,000 is a more common bail amount for the same charge. Other common bond amounts in Pinellas County, as listed in the Uniform Bond Schedule, include:
· 1st degree felony (P.B. life): $50,000-$150,000
· Other 1st degree felonies: $10,000-$100,000
· 2nd degree felony: $5,000-$20,000
· 1st degree misdemeanor: Up to $5,000
· 2nd degree misdemeanor: Up to $250
· Criminal traffic violations: Up to $250
Many more examples are laid out in the Uniform Bond Schedule, and they are all dependent on the precise charges, including whether violence or injury were involved. In any cases of violence or injury, the charges will be more severe, and the recommended bail will be higher.
As you can see from these few examples, bail is not often cheap. You may be able to pay bail outright if you have been arrested on a misdemeanor or traffic charge, but chances are good that you’re going to need some help finding bail if you are charged with anything else. That’s where Integrity Bail Bonds comes in. We provide bail bonds for a fraction of the cost of the full bail. You pay a smaller amount and provide collateral for the rest, and we pay the full amount on your behalf, allowing you to get out of jail and to focus fully on your defense. If you have been charged with a federal crime, a federal bond is even more costly.
